The Argentine Tango is the most passionate of partner dances.. It started about 130 years ago at La Boca by the harbor in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. Here  immigrants, mostly from Spain and Italy got together and expressed the suffering and hardships of their  lives through music and song. Later they danced to the  music and Tango was born.. Most  men came to this new land alone without their families, so the first Tango dance seems to have been  danced by two men and it was quite a wild dance. Later on men  danced with prostitutes and the dance form changed to a male female partner .dance. People called the dance indecent, and it wasn't quite appreciated at first, but slowly it started to spread among the lower class workers. In the 1900s, Tango was introduced to Paris by the wealthy upper class Argentineans. This new style of dance where men and women embraced  each other, captured the people of Paris. However the Pope was enraged by this Tango Fever and forbade the people to dance Tango.. Some  Tango dancers and teachers from Argentina gave a little form and style to this indecent dance and it finally became accepted as formal dance and spread all around Europe.
In Argentina during the 1940s, under the labor friendly rule President  Peron, the Tango became more popular with the general public. This was the golden era  of the  Argentine Tango. Since then Tango has continued to increase in popularity and spread all around the world..
Astor Piazzola introduced  new Tango music to different music fields and got great responses. New dances for the new music and new styles of dance, are being developed these days.
"Tango Argentino" is a combination of Tango and Ballet This style has became very successful throughout the world. Also, the recent production of "Forever Tango", performed on Broadway has attracted even more Tango fans  from all over the world.
